Left Back
A quick and agile football player who excels in both defending and attacking on the left side of the pitch - playing either Left Back or Left Wing - Angus is happy and confident playing in either position. Overall, he has a strong level of fitness and stamina that enables him to get up and down the left wing either making overlaps as a Left Back or making forward runs as a Left Winger. At Left Back Angus has a strong positional sense and reads play well. His speed allows him to close down opponents effectively in 1v1 situations. He is strong in the tackle but also clean. Angus has good accurate passing over short and long distances, often clearing his lines and starting counter attacks. At Left Wing, Angus’s strong dribbling skills gives him a high success rate in beating his opponent, making him a very effective attacker. He can also cross the ball with his left or right foot and is consistently in the top three for assists at his club. Angus is also a confident finisher whether it’s going 1 one 1 with the goalkeeper, cutting in and shooting on his right or shooting near post with his left.

“Angus has been a valued member of Ruts Youth football for many years now and has always been great to train. He can play anywhere on the left side - primarily at left back where his game awareness, tackling, speed, close control and range of passing have made him our first choice back. With the stamina and acceleration to join in attack – either over or under lapping - and add an extra dimension to our offense. Indeed in some games we have deployed him as a very effective left winger. His pace and direct running have always caused problems for opposition defences. Angus has had a fantastic start to this season, scoring 3 goals and 3 assists in 6 games! Always a joy to train and always plays with a smile! Never late and almost never misses a game or training session and all-round great kid with bags of potential to learn and grow within football.”
“Angus has been an integral part of our highly successful U18 side, standing out not just for his undeniable skill but also for his remarkable versatility. While his primary position is left back, Angus is the kind of player every coach dreams of, able to slot into various roles across the pitch with ease and proficiency. His technical ability on the ball, explosive pace, range of passing and tackle-timing, added to sharp footballing intelligence, make him an
excellent defender as well as being able to drive forward and pose a constant threat to opposition defences. In terms of training Angus brings an outstanding work ethic to every session. He approaches every drill with focus and intensity, constantly seeking to improve and refine his skills. He is highly coachable, always eager to listen to feedback and implement it. His attitude is an example for his teammates, driving up the standard of training and creating a culture of commitment within the squad. In terms of teamwork Angus isn’t just a standout player on the field, but also a respected and well-liked member of the squad. He leads by example, displaying professionalism, dedication, and a positive attitude that lifts his teammates. His enthusiasm for the game is infectious, and he is often seen encouraging others, creating an inclusive and motivated environment.
In summary, Angus is an exceptional talent whose contributions to the team extend far beyond his impressive individual performances. His versatility, skillset, and positive mindset make him a vital asset to any squad, and he will undoubtedly continue to achieve great
things as he progresses in his football career.”
