Lonan Swading-Treacy
Current Club
Worthing United F.C.
Centre Midfield
An all-around midfielder with a keen eye for a pass and the ability to drive forward with the ball as quickly as he can recover defensively, covering the full length of the pitch from box to box. Competing at a high level within his age group from a young age, he is versatile enough to fill any outfield position when needed, always willing to sacrifice for the team’s success. Defensively, he excels at slowing down opponents, using his speed to make tackles, and can drop into deeper positions to strengthen the team’s shape. He demonstrates defensive intelligence by identifying an attacker’s weaker foot and forcing them to that side. In attack, he can split defenses with his range of passing, beat defenders, and create goal-scoring opportunities. A clinical penalty taker, he also delivers dangerous balls from both corners and free kicks.

“Lonan is a prime example of why I coach football. When he joined my squad as a 16-year-old, he was talented but undisciplined—prone to petulance, yellow cards, and the occasional red. However, through consistent guidance and constructive pressure, Lonan recognized and addressed these tendencies. Today, he is a transformed player. His cards now only come from professional fouls, reflecting his commitment to the team’s success. As captain, Lonan leads by example, demonstrating determination and resilience. While he can occasionally be a bit overzealous in his leadership role, this stems from his genuine desire to set a high standard for his teammates. Lonan’s journey is a testament to the impact of dedication and personal growth in football, and he has become a key leader and role model for the squad.”
“Lonan joined Worthing College in September 2023 from St Andrews, achieving the qualifications needed to enroll in the L3 BTEC Sport (Football Studies) course and the Men’s Football Academy. His attendance, punctuality, and eagerness to develop both academically and athletically have been exceptional, aligning well with the American model. He is on track to achieve Distinction grades in all subjects by summer 2025. Lonan has earned respect within the College, demonstrating balanced viewpoints in discussions and consistently supporting others. As a valued member of the leadership group, he has shown excellent teamwork, motivation, and mentorship, especially to new students. Throughout his time at Worthing, Lonan has expanded his knowledge in areas like Sports Business, Skill Acquisition, and Sports Leadership. His calm, thoughtful approach and effective time management have contributed to his academic success and growth as a leader. He has shown remarkable discipline, excelling in coursework and consistently striving for excellence in both academics and football.
In football, Lonan has embraced his roles as a holding midfielder and full-back, demonstrating a strong understanding of the psychological aspects of the game. His leadership and determination have positively influenced his teammates. Additionally, his dedication extended beyond College, balancing part-time work and competing for Worthing United U18, U23, and 1st XI teams. Lonan’s development in communication, organization, leadership, and teamwork will serve him well in future endeavors, particularly within the sporting profession. He has exceeded expectations in both skill and fitness, consistently performing at a high level. His maturity, resilience, and commitment make him well-prepared to contribute significantly to American academic and athletic life.”
