Following our latest blog post on the journey of Leeds United winger Jack Harrision, this month’s college spotlight focuses on Wake Forest University.

Ranked in the top 30 National Universities for Education for the 25th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report, Wake Forest is a private research University situated in Winston-Salem in North Carolina.

With over 8,000 students from more than 50 foreign countries, the University offers 45 majors and 60 minors. There are additional programs within their six colleges and schools including the School of Law, School of Divinity, School of Business, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and School of Medicine.

Campus Life

Moving out of home and to a new country is undoubtedly tough as well as exciting. Like all Colleges across the United States, Wake Forest University have a team of staff and students on hand to make the journey easier.

First year students are assigned to one of seven residence halls.  All rooms come equipped with beds, closets, desks, cable television connections and Wi-Fi. Standard furniture includes a micro-fridge combination microwave and refrigerator/freezer unit whilst the use of laundry facilities are free of charge.

College Soccer – The Demon Decons

Wake Forest’s Soccer Team known as the Demon Deacons compete in the NCAA Division I (D1) in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), one of the most  competitive leagues in College sport.

Led by Head Coach Bobby Muuss, the Demon Deacons are consistently competing at the highest level – fighting to win the National Tournaments year after year. 

Coach Bobby has been leading the men’s team for over 6 seasons now and is supported by his two trusted Associate Head Coaches in Steve Armas and Dane Brenner.

Together, the coaching team has guided the squad to five straight Round of 16 appearances and two NCAA College Cups.

Both the Men’s & Women’s team play their home games at Spry Stadium, an on-campus facility that seats 3,000 spectators.

Women’s Team

The Women’s Soccer team are led by Head Coach Tony da Luz who is in his 24th year in charge. 

Having built the team into an ACC and national powerhouse, the Women’s latest success story is that of recent graduate and midfield star Bayley Fiest. Bayley was drafted into the NWSL by the Washington Spirit.
